Also during his career, Michael Morton co-founded the American Holistic Health Association and has served on numerous boards.

Dr. Morton has received praise over the years for his work in the areas of homeless services and community based mental health. Under a special mandate from the governor of California, Michael Morton designed and successfully implemented two innovative model programs for the mentally ill homeless. He brought record numbers of homeless to homes and jobs while serving as the Director of Homeless Services for the Economic Opportunity Commission of San Luis Obispo County in California. During his tenure, one of his programs was awarded the California Healthy Cities and Communities Special Achievement Award as well as the Outstanding Achievement Award by The United States Conference of Mayors as a model of effective collaboration.

Charlotte Hill, Social Media Expert

A recent graduate of UC Berkeley’s Peace and Conflict Studies department, Charlotte spent the past several years studying student activism in the U.S., particularly surrounding the issue of ending genocide and mass atrocities in Darfur, Burma, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.  In the process, she served both locally and nationally with STAND: A Student Anti-Genocide Coalition, facilitating the creation and maintenance of youth activist networks across the country.

From 2007-2008, she served as STAND’s West Coast Regional Outreach Coordinator, overseeing 120 active student chapters in nine states.  She facilitated networking both among the chapters themselves and also between the chapters and local community groups, utilizing various online tactics and tools including emails, mass newsletters and action alerts, social networking sites, and the STAND website.

From 2008-2009, She held the position of College National Outreach Coordinator, managing a team of eight Outreach Coordinators through weekly communications.  She spearheaded the creation of national outreach materials, drafted weekly newsletters and short messages to be distributed through online social networking tools, and developed weekly national outreach plans for the organization, including targeted messaging and distribution plans based on STAND’s membership demographics.

During my STAND tenure, she successfully expanded both the breadth and depth of our chapters, effectively countering a trend of decreasing chapter numbers and building upon the strengths and interests of existing chapters.  In addition, she initiated STAND’s first comprehensive, sustained national messaging campaign, ensuring that each of the communication mechanisms the organization employs, such as regional emails, national newsletters, and messages on social networking sites, convey similar information while using distinct messaging styles.
